| The city of Bristol Tennessee Department of Public Safety is proud to have nearly 60 police officers and firefighters certified as "Public Safety Officers" in all three areas -- police, fire and emergency medical technician. The advantage of the "cross training" is the ability to supplement personnel responding to emergency incidents and speed up the response. Personnel with the ability and equipment to serve as police officer, firefighter and emergency medical technician are vital in the first minutes when time is crucial in determining the outcome of emergency situations. The city provides special pay incentives to PSO's because they have more stringent training requirements. The Fire Department’s ranks of Lieutenant and above are also cross-trained as police officers and given the additional rank of Public Safety Officer. During 2004, our department responded to 826 fire calls and 2443 medical calls, in addition to the 53,494 law enforcement calls. www.bristoltn.org/police |
